The Mind Check

The Mind Check is one of the tips that I share in my one on one coaching and also in my workshops. This can help even the worse over thinkers finally conquer the negative thoughts and take back control of their mind.

For full explanation and so many more useful tips come along to one of my workshops or get in touch to book in your own one one coaching session.

When you have negative thoughts or damaging self-talk you have 3 options:

1 – Accept : the first response of most worriers when they hear a negative thought or start negative self-talk is to accept that it is true. What happens when you do this is that your mood quickly declines and you will go from one negative thought to the next, working yourself up into a panic in the process.

2 – Replace : the best option is to replace any negative thoughts or self-talk you catch with a much more Positive Alternative. This stops the decline in mood, puts an end to the endless worrying & if you stick with it long enough you will even be able to use it to lift your mood.

3 – Delete : if you really can’t find a positive replacement the final option (and a better option than Accepting it) is to simply say Delete.  Of course you can acknowledge the thought but if it is damaging in any way you must decide that rather than accepting it you are going to Delete it. If you don’t like the sound of Delete that’s ok – you can choose Cancel, Irrelevant, Nonsense or whatever you want, as long as it’s clearly telling yourself you refuse to accept it and then move on with your day.

If you start monitoring your thoughts you will start to catch yourself heading into worrying, usually with a completely irrational thought and you can make a better choice using the above.
